KABUL: Mullah Zainul Abidin Abid, the deputy of the National Environmental Protection Agency, has stressed the need for better management of medical waste during a meeting of the Medical Waste Management Committee.
According to a statement from the Agency on Thursday, the deputy policy chief highlighted that medical waste is dangerous and should be separated from regular waste and disposed of specifically to prevent it from being improperly discarded, as it can lead to health issues.
He mentioned that some companies in several provinces have started working on medical waste management, and this initiative should be expanded throughout the country.
The official emphasized that relevant Emirati institutions must fulfill their roles in managing medical waste. Medical waste refers to the byproducts and materials generated from diagnosis, treatment, patient care, medical research, or medical testing.
These wastes can be hazardous, contaminated, and sometimes even lethal.
