Iran’s Interior Minister: We lack capacity to accept undocumented migrants

KABUL: Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s Minister of Interior, has stated that the country does not have the capacity to accommodate undocumented migrants.
According to the state news agency ISNA, Momeni, during his visit to Kerman province, mentioned that there are currently around 2 million undocumented migrants in Iran without legal residency permits.
He emphasized that Iran’s priority is to repatriate these undocumented migrants to their home countries.
Momeni noted: “While Iran has historical, cultural, and religious ties with its neighbors, it cannot accept such a large number of guests.”
The Iranian security official pointed out that the presence of undocumented migrants has taken away job opportunities and necessary support from Iranian citizens.
This comes as officials of the Islamic Emirate have previously emphasized the need for the gradual and dignified return of Afghan migrants from Iran to Afghanistan.
