Mullah Baradar discusses bilateral economic and political relations with President of Mordovia

KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Alexey Zdonov, President of Mordovia, during his visit to Russia on the sidelines of the 16th International Forum of Russia and the Islamic World, his office said in a statement on Friday.

In the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening relations in political and economic fields and expanding trade, including exports, imports, and investment opportunities.

Baradar emphasized that Afghanistan produces high-quality dried and fresh fruits, handmade carpets, precious stones, and other minerals, and is ready to begin exports to Mordovia.

“Afghanistan seeks to import electrical equipment, construction materials, industrial machinery, petroleum products, natural gas, raw aluminum, rail wagons, and transportation means,” he said.

President Zdonov stated that Mordovia has made significant progress in sectors such as medicine, agriculture, energy, and pharmaceutical production, expressing readiness to start joint work with Afghanistan.

He highlighted the interest of Mordovan investors in investing in Afghanistan and mentioned plans to commence exports through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Mordovia is a federal republic of Russia located in the European part of the country along the Volga River.
