Iran ready to transfer oil exploration and production skills to Afghanistan

KABUL: Mohsen Paknejad, Iran’s Minister of Oil, has stated that his country is prepared to transfer its skills and experience in oil exploration, development, and production from mineral resources to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said in a statement that he made the remarks during a meeting with Mulla Hedayatullah Badri, the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, where Fazl Mohammad Haqani and Mohammad Reza Bigdeli, ambassadors of Afghanistan and Iran based in Tehran and Kabul, respectively, were also present.

In the meeting, Paknejad emphasized the importance of training and enhancing human resource capacity.

According to the statement, the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in the fields of surveying, exploration, extraction, and utilization of oil and gas resources, as well as refining crude oil and joint investments in Afghanistan’s mineral resources.

Also, the two sides agreed to establish joint committees to follow up on the discussed topics and expedite project implementations, said the statement, highlighting that the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen economic relations and effectively utilize the existing capacities in both countries.

This meeting comes as the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum has been on an official visit to Iran for the past three days.
