ISLAMABAD/ TASHKENT: Mohammad Sadiq Khan and Ismatulla Irgashev, the special representatives of Pakistan and Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, held a virtual meeting to discuss various issues.
In a statement on his X account on Friday night, Khan noted that the talks focused on the relationships between Islamabad and Tashkent concerning Afghanistan, especially in the areas of trade, economic cooperation, and capacity building.
He emphasized that the railway project connecting Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan was one of the key topics discussed.
This project links the Hairatan area at the Afghanistan-Uzbekistan border to the Kharalchi area along the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Khan’s statement highlighted: “This important initiative for regional connectivity would play a significant role in the development of Afghanistan and the broader progress of the region.”
This dialogue among senior diplomatic officials from Uzbekistan and Pakistan comes at a time when the Islamic Emirate officials have consistently emphasized Afghanistan’s pivotal role in regional connectivity, particularly in linking Central Asia with South Asia.
