KABUL: Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian Ambassador in Kabul, has formally submitted a note from the Russian government regarding the acceptance of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Moscow to Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the ministry’s public head relations said today that the Russian ambassador express hope that the upgrading of diplomatic relations would lead to the expansion of bilateral ties between Afghanistan and Russia.
During a meeting between Minister Muttaqi and Zhirnov, discussions took place regarding a new chapter in Afghanistan-Russia relations, including agreements reached at a recent meeting in Kazan and exchanges on bilateral working committees.
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of the new phase in relations with the Russian Federation and expressed hope that the two countries could develop cooperation in various fields.
Nearly two weeks ago, Zamir Kabulov, the Special Representative of Russia for Afghanistan, mentioned that the Islamic Emirate has introduced the ambassador to the Russian government, although he did not provide details about this individual’s identity.
