KABUL: The Monitoring Department of the General Directorate of Customs of the Ministry of Finance has prevented the smuggling of approximately 30,000 kilograms of food items from entering the country over the past week.
According to a statement from the Finance Ministry on Tuesday, the seized items were discovered at ports and border crossings along the Durand Line in the provinces of Nimroz, Kandahar, and Helmand.
The confiscated goods included food items, sweets, medicinal herbs, clothing, cleaning products, and empty sacks.
The Ministry of Finance noted that smugglers intended to bring these goods into the country illegally and without paying customs duties.
While the ministry has reported the arrest of several individuals on charges related to the smuggling of these goods, it did not specify the number of arrests made.
The efforts of the Monitoring Department of the General Directorate of Customs to prevent the entry of smuggled goods into the country continue.
