KABUL: U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan, Mary Bischoping, met with Abdulaziz Al-Khalifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to discuss issues related to Afghanistan.
The U.S. Embassy for Afghanistan said in a statement on its X account on Wednesday that the discussions focused on shared interests between Qatar and the U.S. regarding Afghanistan.
The statement noted that both sides addressed the repatriation of all U.S. prisoners, prevention of illegal migration, and efforts to combat drug trafficking.
Details of the discussions between the U.S. and Qatari officials have not been disclosed.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that Washington values Qatar as a “friend and partner” in promoting security, prosperity, and regional stability.
This comes after the Islamic Emirate released three imprisoned American citizens as a gesture of goodwill.
