KABUL: The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called the upgrade of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan as an important step and welcomed the development.
Liu Jian, spokesperson for the ministry, in a statement on Wednesday night, said that Beijing believes the enhancement of diplomatic relations between Kabul and Islamabad will strengthen trust and cooperation between the two countries.
He stated, “This is also an important and positive step by both sides to implement the outcomes of the meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in May.”
Diplomatic progress in Afghanistan-Pakistan relations will enable both countries to work together to enhance regional peace and stability said the statement, adding that Beijing is prepared to play a constructive role in improving relations between Kabul and Islamabad.
This comes as the foreign ministries of Afghanistan and Pakistan recently confirmed that the level of diplomatic relations between Kabul and Islamabad has been upgraded from chargé d’affaires to ambassador.
