KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, has said that the Afghan government should be granted access to address the issues faced by Afghan citizens in European countries.
He made the remarks in a meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), here in Kabul, the ministry said in a statement today.
In the meeting, Minister Muttaqi emphasized that with the facilitation of access for the Afghan government in European countries, not only would consular services be provided to Afghan citizens residing there, but their legal issues would also be resolved, and their human rights defended, said the statement.
He asked the UNAMA head to focus on the realities of Afghanistan in the organization’s reports, so that the progress and comprehensive stability could be shared with the global community.
The statement noted that both parties discussed the needs of returning migrants, the problems faced by Afghans in various parts of the world, recent advancements in Afghanistan, private sector growth, attracting investment, and other topics.
Meanwhile, the UNAMA head expressed the mission’s commitment to facilitating returning migrants, creating job opportunities, and fostering investment in Afghanistan.
Ms. Otunbayeva pledged to provide the global community with information on the progress achieved in Afghanistan at the upcoming United Nations meeting.
This meeting comes as a session regarding Afghanistan is set to be held at the United Nations Security Council later this month.
