KABUL: Indian aviation authorities have confirmed that a passenger plane from Air India, carrying 244 individuals, has crashed in the country.
According to the Associated Press, Faiz Ahmad, head of the Indian Aviation Authority, reported today that the Boeing 787, flight number AI 171, reportedly crashed five minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport at 1:38 PM local time.
The aircraft fell in a residential area and caught fire.
Ahmad stated that the plane was carrying 232 passengers and 12 crew members.
The cause of the crash and the number of casualties are still unknown.
Aviation safety sources noted that this is the first crash of a Boeing 787 in the world.
