Norway to provide $80 million in aid to Afghanistan in 2025

KABUL: Pierre Albert Selass, the Chargé d’Affaires of Norway’s Embassy for Afghanistan, has said that Norway will provide $80 million in aid to Afghanistan in the current year (2025).
According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy today, Selass emphasized that this aid package will be allocated for humanitarian assistance to Afghan citizens during a meeting with Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, the acting Minister of Economy.
The acting minister highlighted that the international community should prioritize lifting sanctions on Afghanistan, unfreezing Afghan currency reserves, addressing the issues faced by returning Afghan migrants, and tackling problems arising from climate change in the country.
The statement also noted that improving economic cooperation and continuing humanitarian aid were key issues in the discussions between the two parties.
This comes as the U.S. has frozen billions of dollars in Afghan currency reserves over the past nearly four years, funds that rightfully belong to Afghanistan and could significantly contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
