KABUL: The UK government appointed Richard Lindsay as its special representative for Afghanistan, THXNews reported today.
According to the report, the special representative has assumed responsibilities in the newly established UK office for Afghanistan since the beginning of this month (June).
The report states that Richard Lindsay will advance his responsibilities regarding Afghanistan from the UK.
He is a political figure in Britain, having previously held various political and security roles in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The commencement of the special representative’s role is seen as a strategic shift in London’s policy towards Kabul.
Last week, the President of Kazakhstan also appointed a special representative for Afghanistan, which was welcomed by the Afghan authorities.
