KABUL: Following the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting at Tehran’s request, where representatives condemned U.S. interference and characterized the attacks as violations of international law.
During the meeting, UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged Iran and Israel to initiate talks immediately and to choose diplomacy over retaliation. He emphasized that the people of the region cannot endure further devastation and that the parties involved in the conflict must resolve their issues through dialogue.
Iran’s representative, Amir Saeed Iravani, condemned the U.S. strikes and warned of Iran’s strong response. Meanwhile, the U.S. representative defended the strikes, while the Russian representative Vasily Nebenzya accused Washington of overlooking the killing of women and children by the Israeli regime and violations of human rights.
Nebenzya further stated that the U.S. disregards the views of the international community and continuously violates international law.
