Over 27,000 drug traffickers arrested in Afghanistan over nearly four years, Qani

KABUL: Mufti Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior Affairs, announced that more than 27,000 drug traffickers have been arrested in Afghanistan over the past four years.

According to Omid Radio, he made the remarks, during a meeting to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Kabul on Thursday.

He noted that since the Islamic Emirate returned to power, approximately 98,000 operations against drug trafficking have been conducted across the country.

As a result of the operations 20,000 drug production facilities were destroyed, 38,000 hectares of opium fields eradicated, over 27,000 traffickers arrested, and 8,500 tons of various types of narcotics were seized.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdul Quddus Saadat, a representative of the World Health Organization in Afghanistan, mentioned that many individuals in the country are still addicted to drugs. He emphasized the WHO’s collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health to reduce the number of drug addicts.

It is important to note that, based on a decree from the Supreme Leader, the cultivation, production, trafficking, sale, and use of drugs have been banned across the country.
