KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, expressed the government’s concerns regarding the mass expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran to Alireza Bigdeli, the Iranian ambassador in Kabul.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that Minister Muttaqi urged Bigdeli to discuss the issue of mass expulsions during the summer with senior officials of the Iranian government.
He emphasized the need for a systematic mechanism for the gradual return of migrants, allowing both governments to manage the challenges and transportation effectively.
The Iranian ambassador assured that he would raise the issue of expulsions with his government and that new measures would be taken to address the migrants’ problems.
During the meeting, Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi also referred to the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, calling it beneficial for the region, and stressed that subsequent issues should be handled carefully to avoid escalating tensions.
It is noteworthy that just yesterday, 30,000 Afghan migrants were returned from Iran to Herat province in western Afghanistan.
