KABUL: U.S. lawmakers in the Senate have rejected a proposal aimed at limiting President Donald Trump’s war powers.
According to Reuters, the vote took place early this morning, with 47 senators in favor and 53 against the measure.
Most of the Senate’s 100 members are Republicans and members of Trump’s party.
The proposal to restrict Trump’s war powers was introduced by Democrats following a U.S. airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities.
This rejection comes just hours after the President mentioned the possibility of renewed bombings of Iranian nuclear sites.
Additionally, the U.S. Supreme Court has recently limited the powers of judges in restricting Trump’s war authority.
Trump has hailed this Supreme Court decision as a significant victory.
