KABUL: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reports that the forced expulsion of Afghan families from Iran has led to the separation of 5,000 children from their families.
Dr. Tajuddeen Oyewale, the head of UNICEF in Afghanistan, said in a post on his X on Sunday night, that recently, an average of 20,000 Afghan citizens have been entering their country from Iran daily.
Oyewale added that a total of 160,000 Afghan migrants have returned from Iran through the Islam Qala border crossing this month.
He stated: “UNICEF and its partners are providing vital health, nutrition, protection, and water services at this crossing.”
According to returning Afghan migrants, Iranian police and military forces have detained them from various locations, including workplaces, and returned them to Afghanistan without any notification to their families.
The forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan has faced significant reactions and concerns.
