KABUL: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan has confirmed that 45 people have lost their lives due to heavy rainfall and flooding across the country, the Pakistan Today website news said on Sunday night.
According to the NDMA, the victims included women and children who perished over the past two days in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.
The authority has also warned of the possibility of urban flooding in various cities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is at the top of the list with 31 fatalities, including 10 children, while Punjab follows with 13 deaths. Notably, eight of the victims in Punjab were children who died when the roof of their home collapsed.
Additionally, Sindh and Balochistan have reported 11 fatalities, ranking third and fourth in terms of casualties from the rain and flooding.
Warnings for continued rainfall in Pakistan have been issued until July 5.
Seasonal and torrential rains annually cause significant loss of life and substantial financial damage to the citizens of Pakistan.
