Drug-producing factory destroyed in Helmand

LASHKARGAH: The Helmand Provincial Police Command has announced the discovery and destruction of a drug production and processing facility in the province.

In a statement, the police command said on Monday that the facility, which contained a significant amount of narcotics, was uncovered and destroyed by the Counter-Narcotics Directorate in the Sangin District of Helmand.

According to the statement, in the operation 90 kilograms of opium, 30 kilograms of hashish, 49 liters of acid, four barrels of mixed chemicals, and various other equipment used in the production and processing of drugs were seized.

The statement did not specify whether anyone was arrested in connection with the case.

The Ministry of Interior announced last week the launch of thousands of operations by Emirati forces aimed at combating drug trafficking in the country.
