KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for peace in Afghanistan, has once again spoken out about the expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran, calling the treatment they receive during arrests in the country “inhumane.”
In a post on his X on Tuesday night, he noted that Afghan migrants are arrested during “road raids” in Iran, with no regard for their requests to return to Afghanistan with their families.
He added that he has received troubling reports from those assisting Afghan migrants at the Islam Qala border in Herat.
Khalilzad stated: “When migrants express they have no objection to being expelled but wish to leave the country peacefully with their wives and children, they are told that their families will be expelled separately and they can find them later. He described this as an inhumane act.”
Previously, Amnesty International has also expressed concern over the treatment of Afghan migrants during arrests in Iran.
Despite global criticism, the forced expulsion of Afghan migrants from Iran continues vigorously.
