HERAT: Herat Local authorities said that essential facilities projects worth 16 million Afghanis have been implemented to address the situation of migrants in Herat.
The Herat governor’s press office said in a statement on Wednesday evening that the initiatives include the construction of large kitchens for preparing meals for migrants, the establishment of vehicle parking areas to prevent congestion, and the provision of 20 containers and a large hangar for temporary shelter for migrants.
Local officials indicated that in the past 17 days, 450,000 Afghan migrants have returned to the country through the Islam Qala border crossing.
The statement also noted that various services have been provided to returning migrants in Herat during this period.
This comes amid ongoing forced repatriations of Afghan migrants from Iran, with statistics indicating that thousands are being sent back daily.
