TASHKENT: The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, has stated that his country is exploring the possibility of enhancing relations with Afghanistan.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Shaikh Abdul Ghafar Bahar, the Islamic Emirate ambassador to Uzbekistan, the embassy said in a statement on Friday night.
According to the statement, the Afghan ambassador viewed the elevation of relations between Kabul and Tashkent as a significant step toward strengthening economic, cultural, and commercial ties.
The discussions also included ways to bolster political and economic relations, with topics such as the Afghan-Trans project, visa facilitation for Afghan traders, and simplifying border procedures to boost trade between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
In the statement, Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister welcomed the active role of the Afghan embassy in fostering relations between the two countries.
This comes as Russia officially recognized the Islamic Emirate as the legitimate authority in the country about ten days ago.
