KABUL: U.S. police have confirmed that an armed attack on a church has resulted in at least three deaths, including the attacker, and three injuries, including one police officer.
According to the Associated Press, the incident occurred on Monday, when a man opened fire on police during a traffic stop and then stole a vehicle near the Lexington Airport in Kentucky, culminating inside the Richmond Road Baptist Church.
The city police chief stated that a police officer was injured at the onset of the shooting, and after the assailant reached the church and began firing, two women were killed and two others were injured.
The victims are reported to be 72 and 32 years old, with the condition of one of the injured individuals described as critical.
Authorities stated that the attacker was subdued in response to police actions.
The motive behind the incident and the identity of the assailant have not yet been disclosed by the police.
