Minister Muttaqi urged int’l community to support Afghanistan in trafficking drug into country

KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed concerns about drug trafficking from outside into Afghanistan during a meeting with Bo Mathiesen, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
According to a statement from the Ministry on Tuesday in the meeting, Minister Muttaqi emphasized that drug trafficking has become a serious threat, necessitating action from the international community to address this issue.
He called the fight against drugs under the Islamic Emirate historic, noting that all security institutions and forces in the country are committed to combating this phenomenon.
The statement mentioned, “Muttaqi urged the international community to assist in creating alternative livelihoods, providing legal income sources, and initiating agricultural, livestock, and small production activities for Afghan farmers.”
Meanwhile, the UNODC Executive Director praised the decisive Islamic Emirate’s fight against drugs.
Both sides emphasized the continuation of non-political efforts to combat drugs in Afghanistan, maintaining a spirit of cooperation, and continuing discussions.
Recently, the security forces’ seizure of various kinds of narcotics in the country has significantly increased.
