Deployment of special forces from Damascus to Suwayda; Barak announces ceasefire agreement in Southern Syria

KABUL: The Syrian presidential office said in a statement on Friday night that it plans to deploy special forces to reduce tensions and restore calm in the Suwayda province.

Meanwhile, Tom Barak, the U.S. Special Representative for Syria, stated on Saturday morning on his X that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Syria and Israel in southern Syria.

Barak described the agreement, which is expected to end the recent violent clashes in Suwayda, as “fragile.” He noted that the agreement was achieved with U.S. support and welcomed by Turkey, Jordan, and other neighboring countries.

The remarks come as Syrian government officials have not yet made any official statements regarding the ceasefire agreement.

The announcement of the ceasefire coincides with reports that Arab tribes in Syria have sent thousands of armed forces to Suwayda, expressing their readiness to establish stability in the province and counter the Druze ethnic minority.
