‘We try for respectful deportation of Afghan migrants,’ Pezeshkian

KABUL: Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, stated that Tehran is working to ensure that the deportation of Afghan migrants is conducted with utmost respect.

The Iranian Embassy in Kabul said in a post on its X account that the Iranian President referred to Afghan citizens residing in the country as “brothers and sisters,” emphasizing that the current actions regarding migrants are a “necessary measure” to regulate their presence in Iran.

He also asserted that the ongoing executive measures will ultimately benefit the Afghan migrants themselves.

The remarks come after the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has recently urged for an end to mistreatment of migrants during deportation.

Furthermore, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, requesting that Iran provide Afghan migrants with the opportunity to settle their affairs before deportation.
