Grandi calls for tripartite meeting on Afghan migrants’ return from Iran

KABUL: Filippo Grandi, the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, has requested a tripartite meeting during his recent visit with Eskandar Momeni, Iran’s Minister of Interior.

According to IRNA, the meeting aimed to discuss the return of Afghan migrants from Iran, with representatives from Tehran and Kabul participating alongside a UN representative.

During their discussions, Momeni and Grandi addressed issues such as increasing international aid, regulating the presence of Afghan citizens in Iran, and preventing drug trafficking.

Grandi, who arrived in Afghanistan three days ago, had visited officials of the Islamic Emirate and Afghan migrants at the Islam Qala border before traveling to Tehran.

He previously urged the humane treatment of Afghan migrants during their return to Afghanistan in a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister.
