KABUL: The Ministry of Water and Energy said in a statement on Wednesday that Shirgal check dam worth over 12.9 million Afghnis inaugurated in Paktika province.
According to the statement, the check dam during a ceremony which was attended by the Emirati officials has been inaugurated in the Shakheylabad district of Paktika province.
The dam measures 120 meters in length and 9 meters in height, said the statement adding that it has a storage capacity of 100,000 cubic meters of water, which will enable the irrigation of 1,200 jeribs of land.
The construction costs for this public-benefit project were covered by the Ministry of Water and Energy.
The construction of small and large dams across the country has become a priority since the establishment of the Islamic Emirate, aimed at managing water resources, enhancing groundwater, preventing flood damage, and irrigating agricultural lands.
