Lavrov invites Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi to sixth Moscow Format meeting

KABUL: Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of Russia, in a telephone conversation has invited Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, to participate in the sixth Moscow Format meeting, according to a statement from the ministry on Wednesday.

Lavrov emphasized the importance of regional mechanisms for enhancing interaction with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said the statement.

He noted that the recognition of the Islamic Emirate offers unprecedented opportunities for political, economic, and international cooperation between the two countries, with tangible results expected in the near future.

Lavrov also praised the efforts of the Islamic Emirate in combating drugs and ensuring security.

Meanwhile, Mawlavi Muttaqi expressed gratitude for Russia’s recognition of the Islamic Emirate, calling it a significant development in bilateral relations.

He added that this recognition not only opens doors for political and economic collaboration but also represents an unprecedented step toward integrating Afghanistan into the global community.

The sixth round of Moscow Format talks is scheduled to take place in September or October 2025, hosted by Russia, to discuss matters concerning Afghanistan.
