Syria to hold parliamentary elections in less than a month

KABUL: The High Election Committee of the People’s Council in Syria has announced that the country will witness parliamentary elections in less than a month.
According to Al Jazeera on Sunday, the parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place from September 15 to 20 of this year.
Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, the head of the High Election Committee, stated that one-third of the 210 members of the Syrian parliament will be appointed by Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of the transitional government, while the remaining members will be elected by the people.
It is expected that electoral colleges will be established in each province of Syria to facilitate the electoral process.
This will be the first election following the overthrow of former President Bashar al-Assad’s government and the establishment of the government led by Ahmad al-Sharaa seven months ago.
