KABUL: ISIS has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a church in the Ituri province of Eastern Congo, targeting worshippers.
The attack occurred on Sunday morning in the Komanda area, located 75 kilometers from the center of Bunia.
According to United Nations reports, at least 43 people have been killed in the incident.
The militant group stated on its Telegram channel that they killed around 45 individuals in the attack and also set numerous homes and shops on fire.
The United Nations mission in the region (MONUSCO) has confirmed the death toll of 43, which includes 19 women and 9 children.
It is worth noting that the eastern regions of Congo have long been plagued by similar incidents involving various armed groups.
