KABUL: Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the largest sanctions package imposed by the United States since 2018.
According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, the ministry said the U.S. Treasury Department announced last night that it had sanctioned 50 individuals and over 50 Iranian entities as part of the largest sanctions package, targeting Iran’s energy network.
This sanctions package includes the extensive Iranian shipping network managed by Ali Shamkhani’s son, a senior official in the country.
Ismail Baqae, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, described the U.S. sanctions as “illegal and oppressive.” He stated that the unilateral and unlawful sanctions against Iran are criminal acts that violate fundamental principles of international law and human rights, constituting crimes against humanity.
This development comes amid intensified sanctions from the U.S. on Iran, particularly in the energy sector, following the inauguration of the new U.S. administration.
