Mawlavi Abdul Wali Haqqani: Breastfeeding is an obligation

KABUL: On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, Mawlavi Abdulwali Haqqani, Deputy Minister of Public Health, stated that breastfeeding is an “obligation.”
According to Radio Omid correspondent, Haqqani made the remarks today during a program celebrating World Breastfeeding Week in Kabul.
He emphasized that, according to the sacred religion of Islam, abortion is prohibited, and that breastfeeding is a right of the child and must be provided.
He reiterated that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is committed to providing necessary support through health centers to ensure that children are not deprived of their mother’s milk.
Meanwhile, Dr. Haidar Khan Haidari, Director General of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Public Health, described breast milk as a shield against many diseases in children.
He urged mothers not to deprive their children of the blessing of breast milk.
This year, the Ministry of Public Health is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week under the slogan “Prioritize Breastfeeding and Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
According to the global calendar, World Breastfeeding Week starts from August 1 to August 7. This global event aims to highlight the value of breast milk and to raise awareness about it.
