Netherlands announces €500 million military aid to Ukraine

KABUL: The Dutch Ministry of Defense has announced that it will provide €500 million (approximately $578 million) for Ukraine’s purchase of weapons.

According to Reuters on Monday night, the Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brinkman said that the aid package will be used to acquire components for Patriot missile defense systems to help Ukraine counter Russian air attacks.

Brinkman stated that the Netherlands, as the first NATO ally, is providing a €500 million package that includes American-made military systems (including components and missiles for the Patriot defense system).

The Dutch defense official emphasized that his country is the first NATO member to act under the new proposal by Donald Trump regarding the purchase of U.S.-produced weapons and their assistance to Ukraine.

Previously, Trump, after months away from the White House, expressed support for the NATO plan to purchase American weapons and provide them to Ukraine during a NATO summit.
