KABUL: Based on a decree of the Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Ali Larijani has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, media reported.
Iranian state-run news agency IRNA, said on Tuesday night, that the President has asked Larijani to prioritize national security issues, particularly focusing on “emerging and technological threats, defining new strategic concepts, and adopting a people-centered smart approach.”
He also emphasized that the council’s secretariat must operate in line with the country’s overarching policies and under the guidance of the “Supreme Leader.”
Pezeshkian added that with these approaches, Iran can achieve “sustainable security” at national, regional, and international levels.
Ali Larijani is a veteran politician and principlist in Iran, having previously served in various senior government positions, including the presidency of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, chief nuclear negotiator, and head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), among others.
