KABUL: An Emirati plane was shot down in an attack on an airport in Darfur city, Sudan Tribune reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, Sudan’s state television stated that the targeted aircraft was in Nyala, a strategic city in Darfur, and was carrying 40 Colombian fighters when it was destroyed during landing.
The attack not only resulted in the deaths of 40 individuals but also destroyed weapons and military ammunition that were loaded onto the plane for transfer to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Sudan Tribune noted that it has not been able to independently verify this information.
As of now, the Rapid Support Forces and the United Arab Emirates have not officially commented on the downing of the aircraft.
The Rapid Support Forces consist of various militias based in parts of Sudan and have been engaged in conflict with the government forces led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the leader of Sudan’s military government, for the past two years.
