Peace agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in White House

KABUL: Leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have signed a peace agreement at the White House in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, Reuters reported on Friday night.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the signing as “historic,” while Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to it as a key to a new era between the two countries.

During the signing ceremony, Trump stated that this action would end the wars between Baku and Yerevan forever.

The peace agreement comes two years after Azerbaijan’s rapid attack and the capture of the mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenian forces, which reportedly led to the migration of around 100,000 Armenian citizens.

However, reports indicate that the signing of this peace agreement between the rival countries in the South Caucasus, mediated by Trump, has raised concerns and dissatisfaction of Russia and Iran.
