Netanyahu facing isolation as close ally criticizes him harshly

KABUL: Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, considered one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s close allies, has sharply criticized him, stating that he has lost faith in the Prime Minister’s capabilities.

In a video message, Smotrich referred to the security cabinet’s recent decision regarding the complete occupation of Gaza as “foolish and illogical.”

He argued that sending thousands of soldiers into harm’s way to achieve Netanyahu’s objective of freeing prisoners from Hamas’s militant movement is morally wrong.

This criticism comes as Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved the decision to occupy Gaza on Friday, which has sparked international reactions.
