KABUL: As the meeting between the U.S. and Russian presidents regarding the fate of the Ukraine war is announced, international media reports indicate that the White House is negotiating to invite Volodymyr Zelensky to this meeting.
Sky News reported this morning that a senior official and three insiders confirmed that talks have begun regarding whether the Ukrainian president will attend the meeting between U.S. and Russian leaders next Friday in Alaska.
The officials emphasized that there is hope for Zelensky’s presence at the meeting.
One official, when asked about the invitation for Zelensky, stated that the president is still open to holding a trilateral meeting with both leaders. Currently, the White House is focusing on planning the bilateral meeting requested by President Putin.
The discussions about Zelensky’s potential attendance come after recent statements from him.
The Ukrainian president recently declared, in response to Russia’s demands for the cession of eastern Ukraine in exchange for halting the war, that “no part of the country will be given to the occupiers.”
