Peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan; President Pezeshkian to visit Armenia

KABUL: Following the signing of a peace agreement between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the presence of Trump, Iranian state media report that Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, will leave for an official visit to Armenia.

The Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday night, that President Pezeshkian will be in Armenia, Iran’s northern neighbor, from August 18 to 21.

According to reports from the Armenian Ministry of Economy, a Tehran-Yerevan business forum is also scheduled as part of this visit.

This trip comes amid rising concerns regarding the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the potential for increased American influence at Iran’s northern border.

With the signing of the agreement, the strategic “Zangezur” corridor, which will be recognized as the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” could potentially hand over Iran’s only land connection to Europe through Armenia to its longstanding rival, Washington.

Iranian media have not disclosed whether discussions regarding this corridor will be included in Pezeshkian’s agenda during his visit to Yerevan.
