KABUL: As the grape harvest season arrives, officials from the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Department in Baghlan province report a 35% increase in grape production this year.
In a press statement, the department announced that last year, grape farmers in Baghlan harvested 376 metric tons of grapes, while this year, the figure has risen to 742 metric tons.
The statement indicated that the area dedicated to grape orchards has expanded from 10.4 hectares last year to over 16 hectares this year.
Farmers from Pul-e-Khumri and the districts of Dand Ghori, Baghlan Markazi, Dahana Ghori, and Doshi attribute the increase in grape production to their improved experiences, familiarity with standard grape cultivation methods, and access to high-quality seedlings.
Additionally, the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Department emphasized that due to the successful cultivation of grapevines, 10 new orchards have been established in the past year.
Experts in agricultural and horticultural matters note that the lack of rainfall during the grape harvest season this year has contributed to the safety of the grape crops and the increase in the yield of this high-value fruit.
