HERAT: The provincial officials of Herat province have announced the commencement of construction for the first urban tunnel, costing approximately 65 million Afghanis.
The Herat governor’s office in a statement said today, that Shaikh Maulana Islamjar, the governor of Herat, stated at the inauguration ceremony that this is the first urban tunnel project in Afghanistan aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the province.
The tunnel will extend from Fahim Market to the Water Supply Directorate and then to the Telecommunications Road, measuring 660 meters in length and 8 meters in width, with an estimated cost of 65 million Afghanis.
Local officials noted that the tunnel will be funded from the development budget of the Herat municipality.
Herat is considered one of the strategic and populous provinces in the western part of the country.
