Earthquake casualties in Kunar exceed 1,400

KABUL: Officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have reported that the death toll from the devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 1,411.
Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said on his X account today that the number of injured individuals has reached 3,124, and the total number of destroyed homes stands at 5,412.
The casualties include those from Asadabad, the capital of Kunar province, and the districts of “Sokai, Chapadara, Pech Dara, and Watapur.”
No further details regarding the victims have been provided.
This report comes as search and rescue operations continue, with both domestic and international teams conducting efforts via land and air.
Recently, the Ministry of Defense deployed commando forces to inaccessible areas via helicopters to enhance the search and rescue operations.
