KABUL: The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs has announced an exceptional measure to exempt investors who build cold storage facilities in the country from tax payments for five years.
During an Economic Commission meeting chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, it was decided to grant a five-year tax exemption to any company or entrepreneur that individually invests in the construction of cold storage facilities, his office said in a statement today.
The statement noted that Afghanistan is an agricultural country; however, the lack of cold storage facilities and seasonal tariffs imposed on agricultural products by neighboring countries, along with the closure of trade routes, have financially harmed the national economy and farmers.
Additionally, the meeting approved plans for the construction of cold storage and factories on land belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock in the center of Ghazni province.
This comes at a time when the Ministry of Industry and Commerce has previously reported efforts to establish and activate dozens of government and private cold storage facilities across the country this year.
