KABUL: The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a lead and zinc processing plant with an investment of $100 million, in collaboration with the company “Kabul Lamer Mansoor Ahmadzai.”
The Memorandum was signed between the head of the company and Mullah Hidayatullah Badri, the Minister of Mines and Petroleum, according to a statement from the ministry today.
The plant will be constructed in three phases and will have a processing capacity of 5,000 tons of lead and zinc per day.
The company is also set to establish a solar power system to meet its electricity needs.
The statement stated that the raw materials required for the lead and zinc processing will be sourced from the country’s mines, with investment from the company.
Currently, the extraction of lead and zinc from the mines in Bamyan province is ongoing.
