KABUL: Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, said in a statement today that Uzbekistan is prepared to invest in the construction of the Balkh-Herat railway.
According to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the ministry today, Ibek Osmanov, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, met with Mullah Mohammad Isa Sani, the Minister of Public Works, to discuss Uzbekistan’s readiness to invest in the railway project.
The spokesperson added that the minister welcomed Uzbekistan’s willingness and emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is also ready to cooperate in this regard.
Osmanov and Sani highlighted the long-standing economic, trade, railway, and social ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan as key topics of their discussion.
Both parties stressed the importance of increasing rail transfers between the two countries through the Hairatan port, enhancing bilateral relations, and focusing on infrastructure projects.
Additionally, the Minister of Public Works and the Uzbek ambassador discussed the restoration of the Friendship Bridge between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, agreeing that a joint technical delegation from both countries would visit the bridge.
This comes after a recent delegation from the Iranian government also visited Mazar-i-Sharif to explore investment opportunities in the Balkh-Herat railway.
