Surge in forced deportations of Afghan migrants from Pakistan; 100,000 deported in one week

KABUL: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said in a statement on Saturday that the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, has significantly increased.

According to the statement, since the beginning of this year, 2.6 million Afghan migrants have returned from neighboring countries to Afghanistan, with 100,000 of them deported from Pakistan in the first week of this month (September).

The report notes that in earthquake-affected areas, UNHCR has met with families who recently returned from Pakistan only to lose their homes again.

The UNHCR has urged the Pakistani government to maintain its humanitarian approach towards Afghan migrants.

The agency has emphasized that it has updated its needs to address the challenges faced by migrants and requires $285.6 million for assistance.

This comes as thousands of Afghan migrants enter Afghanistan daily after being deported from neighboring countries.
