KABUL: Zalmay Khalilzad, former U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Peace, stated that Kabul and Washington are actively working to overcome barriers in their relationship.
He said on his X, that the issue of prisoner releases is one of the immediate and urgent obstacles that both the Afghan government and the U.S. are striving to address.
He noted that the Afghan authorities have recognized that American citizens in prison are not just “assets” but “a burden” on them.
Khalilzad expressed hope for significant progress to be made soon in this regard.
This comes as a recent U.S. delegation visited Kabul and engaged in discussions with Afghan officials regarding the release of prisoners.
