KABUL: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has welcomed the release of American citizen Amir Amiri from Afghanistan and praised Qatar’s efforts in this regard.
At the same time, Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, also welcomed the Islamic Emirate’s decision regarding the release of the American citizen.
Khalilzad noted on his X account that this is an important step toward improving relations between Afghanistan and the United States.
This comes after Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi met last night with a delegation led by Adam Bowler, a special envoy of President Donald Trump, where Amir Amiri was freed and handed over to the delegation.
